The best way to think about creating essential oil mixes is to group them in three notes. After you’ve figured out which type of scent you want, you’ll need a top, middle, and base note. The general rule of thumb is that the top note is the one that evaporates first so that the remaining notes are the more persistent ones.

The guideline for mixing essential oils is 20-50-30, meaning that it’s 20% for a top note, 50% for the middle, and 30% for the base.

After mixing if your nose tells you that the blend makes sense, (because the scent should be the first thing to tip you off if you’re doing a good job or not), then dilute it in the carrier oil, and if you want to make it into a perfume simply add alcohol.
